Ours was put in several years ago, pit in 4" tile a few feet above the loops as it was backfilled, so I can run water over it to keep it wetter if I need to, it was put in at 9-10' deep. When they were designing how many tons it needed to be, was told they sized it to winter for heat, said it would have way more cooling capacity than was needed to cool in summer.
