Central Nebraska | I found a nice '94 Chevy 2500 to use as a work truck, gave $4,500 for it and it does everything I need and tows better than a half ton did. It's nice enough that I keep it looking decent and try to keep the interior clean, but I'm not scared to drive it in the pasture or down a muddy driveway. I like to have a nicer pickup to drive to town that doesn't have a full toolbox, drip oil, shovels, boots, etc. in the back, which is why I bought the '94. It took me awhile to find, though. Most of those era trucks are rusty or some kid has owned it and hacked it all to crap. I guess I'm saying if I were you I'd try to find another work truck. I'm in the same camp as you with not wanting to trash a nice, newer pickup.
That sucks about your '01. I wonder what the deal is. Grandpa has an '02 GMC with the 8.1, I really love that pickup.
