Subject: Do you cover your makeshift silage piles?

Baldwin City, KS
After the post on the 14 year old silage pile that wasn't covered, I'm wondering about whether it gains alot to cover my round bale wall silage piles. I made two piles with bales that are both around 25' wide and at least 10' deep in the non ramp areas of the pile. I used round bales to make the wall. I did alot of packing with a 4wd tractor as I went. Given the fact that oxygen can already get in and spoil around the bale walls, will I gain much by trying to cover the rest of the pile? I will likely start feeding out of both bunkers well before winter and see them being gone before spring.
Before, I've made the pile small enough, I could remove the bales, apply the plastic, and set the bales back down before the pile caved off. In this case, the piles are too big for this to work well, thus the bales will remain in contact with the pile until it is gone. Thanks for advice.
