i build commercial pads for projects all over the state. cheap and easy compaction test....drive a concrete pin in the ground 8 or so inches. if it takes 8-10 strikes with a 4lb hammer its good. usually takes that many strikes for the pin the test guy does to set the nuke/compaction tester up for test.
