Western Iowa | I would say go for it, but you need fertilizer. What does the organic dairy do with it?? Maybe you can get manure from it to go back on you hay ground. If not I have heard of guys using baked turkey or chicken litter (I have no clue why it would be baked).
Organic hay is worth a premium, but I really don't know how much. I would say 10-20%, but again I really don't know. It needs to be a premium to offset the extra trouble and the extra $$ it will take to get your fertilizer needs.
If that guy ducks out on you, I wouldn't think it would be hard to get rid of organic hay, but I don't know your part of the country. Organic demands will rise in the next decade I am sure. I have a nieghbor that is a shining example of what not to do organic and he is still in business, only because there is demand for his product. | |
