While I would not want the pipeline anywhere near my house, there is absolutely no reason to put up with having your property messed up. Pipelines can and are installed by directional boring. The company just has to decide to do it that way. Locally we had a fairly large line (I think 30", part of the original Keystone Line) directional bored under a bush, creek, more bush, small field, road allowance, large ditch and into a field where they continued with conventional pipeline installation. After looking at Google pics I would estimate the length of that single push to be close to 2000'.
