Subject: RE: sewer smell in basement

west of DSM, Iowa
Our house was built in 1966 with copper drain pipes inside the house. I started noticing septic smell in the house/basement at times. Turns out septic gas corrodes copper. Now we are replacing the copper drain and vent pipes in our house. The 3 " drain from upstairs bathroom which is also stink pipe through roof all have holes in it. In the basement where the pipe runs horozontal they breakout acrooss the top. It's wrapped with walmart bags and duct tape until plumbers come and gut the house top to bottom to replace the copper pipe. You mighjt check for that, too. We didn't have problem until put in new septic and the vent became very active. We can smell septic outside on house when wind is in right direction or air is heavy.
