SE Nebraska | The bad part is an inch of rain will just be an insult for most areas. The top of the profile is so dry and powdery that an inch just won't go very far. Alot of areas are needing inches just to get to a point where it will make a real difference. Also, as the crop canopy gets more established (particularly in corn) a certain percentage of that rain is lost to evaporation. The leaves catch the water and it takes 1.2-1.3 inches just to get 1'' to the soil. I see that affect under pivots particularly on hot days. | |
