Sounds like cross pollination in the seed field was higher than anticipated. Not unlike what happens when volunteer RR corn in a corn field planted to LL wont die from Liberty/Ignite - cross pollination the year before with a neighbor's corn crop. Corn will cross pollinate quite a distance in some years.
