For that kind of stuff, definitely a spool gun. I've got a Lincoln spool gun on a little Power Mig 180, spool gun was very reasonable, $200 I think from welding store. Probably cost more to buy a tank of Argon and have it filled. TIG is neat, but way too slow for irrigation pipe.
