Yes, I've worked on a few(since I graduated tech school in 1997). A few that you put the specified amount in according to the book, and they will work......at idle. Put them to work on the road or the field, and they won't. Put gauges on them and see what they are doing at working rpms, and they are going low enough to trip the low pressure switch. After arguing with engineers, and a/c experts and being tired of customer complaints, we learned to fill them to a different spec......a couple months later new specs came out and then the a/c systems worked from the factory.

You and I are coming to the same conclusion, just a different way. If they work at WOT or 1800, then they will work at idle unless something is wrong. They can work at idle, but not at WOT with not enough freon.
