Subject: Campground rant

Galahad, Alberta
Took the family down to our local little provincial park/campground. It is a small campground, with about 60 unserviced sites. A notice at the check-in asks you to be conscientious about using gen sets. There is no warden at the campground, only a guy that drives through and checks up a few times a week. On summer weekends it is usually near full, during the week it is almost empty. We pulled into a nice spot, and got set up. The neighbours generator was running. They kept it on until 9:40 pm. They fired it up at 8:30 the next morning. Various other campers had gen sets running throughout the day. Some loud, some very quiet. Some only ran at meal times, some ran whenever. There was a young couple with a year old baby camping behind us. An older couple next to us in a big fifth wheel had their gen set going most of Saturday. Finally, at 11:00pm, the guy behind us lost it and went over and banged on their wall, told them to turn off the damn thing. It died instantly, the older couple didn't even stick their heads out.
What ever happened to camping being about "roughing it". People used to live without electricity. Surely you can live without it for 48 hours while camping. I'm not going to try to legislate gen sets out of the campgrounds, but there needs to be some common sense used. Please be considerate the next time you fire your gen set up at the public campground.
