If this house is to be a resale at some point so you can upgrade, I'd vote against the machine-shed siding on a house.  If it's going to be left empty or razed when you leave it, then it wouldn't matter.  But machine-shed steel, vertical ribbed, even if you lay it horizontally, isn't going to "up" the resale value of the house, and may well hurt the resale.
