Subject: understanding basis?Ray Jenkins

western iowa,by Denison
Was reading the post below about Ray saying there is a positive $1.35 basis on Dec?-How do I lock in a basis-please explain to me how I can lock a positive basis in on my 2012 dec corn?
I called my co-op and they laughed at me-then I reread Ray's comment that farmers should lock in there positive basis-so my question is Ray when I call you at cargill and tell you I have 40,000 bushel of corn to sell for dec-what is my bid-can I lock in the basis for Dec delivery?and then just wait for dec?if corn goes down will I get a lower price? If corn goes up and I have my basis locked in will I get a higher price?Do you do only basis contracts?
No wonder I feed cattle this marketing on grain is confusing?
Why doesnt cargill go to 100 car trains for sourcing its grain-wouldnt a 100 car trains be a lot more efficent to unload then 400 semis a day-my son has been on some of the G.E. fact finding missions where they unload 100 car coal trains at 3mph automatily-doing my math they could unload 1.2million bushel of corn a day with 1 person-in about 3 hours or less
Thyanks for all the updates Ray
