Hard to tell a yield difference since weather seems to gave more to do with yield than anything else. This year yield was about 2.8 tons dm while last year it was just under 4.0 tons dm. 2010 was 3.5 tons dm and 2009 was 2.7 tons dm. Cutting pre boot stage seems like a waste since the yield is very low. I would like to wait even longer but we usually need to get the corn in sometime and our spring weather seems to give us a week to 10 day window every year to get harvested and planted again.

I know the boot stage it is usually just below waste high. A neighbor grew some for seed a couple years ago and it was around my shoulders at full maturity. Not sure what the tonnage would be then.
