nw NC | Here are some pictures of a large Common Snapping Turtle that I got out of the dairy lot run-off retention pond today. I shot it from 150 feet with my .22 caliber rifle with 12x scope. It measured 39 inches nose to tip of tail, shell was 17 inches long and 14 1/2 inches wide. Took it to local farm supply and weighed on certified platform scales. It balanced the scale at 45 pounds. Not quit as large, I think, as the one I got 15 or 20 years ago, but still a nice one. I gave it to a family of black folks who live nearby. You should have seen the grins on their faces when I told them I had a turtle for them. The man's wife said "I ain't gonna eat none of that thing. " He said " I ain't gonna let you have none of it !"
