Extreme southeast Nebraska | Yes thats scouring rush. Some of the chemicals I've been told will kill it are Glean and Tordon. Both of these will put a severe restriction in being able to grow crops there for potentially years. I've got several patches of it, some close to home, some not close. On the close patch I've used extensive tillage between crops to thin it down. I'm talking about chiseling it several times in the fall to rip up most of the rhizomes. Then follow up with occasional chiseling or field cultivating to bring the rhizomes to the surface and knock the dirt off them. I have noticeably thinned this patch this way. A word of caution: don't just do a little tillage and not follow through with more tillage or you'll just spread the rhizomes and not significantly hurt the main patch. On another patch, I'm going to try close mowing or shredding to see if I can slow it down. |
