what firmware version in the monitor? anything prior to 31.4 is not compatible with XP, so you're wasting your time. You'll have to update firmware (which may require a different monitor altogether) or use WAAS or VBS.
Otherwise, it's 8N1 NMEA 4800 at 1hz, GGA and VTG turned on
