funny this comes up,,,daughter in law has 2 of them uprights a cheapie and expensive one, said the cheapie was the best by far but crapped out that day and they were throwing it away.

I asked if its plugged up? oh no cant be. Well not in normal spot but higher up it was plugged tight for about a foot,,,,the valve to change from floor to wand for stairs wouldnt even turn any more for a LONG time

After I got done with it it sucked like brand new. Other expensive one same way,,,,they all plug inside where you cant see it.

At home I have one and agree with filters where you dont expect,,,I found 3 different ones on cleaner I didnt even know were there a few years ago,,,course a little drywall dust accelerated the process.

I am willing to bet more uprights are thrown away that need cleaned out than are really broke
