Guymon, OK | We get them all the time. I usually consider it a sign of a stable atmosphere. You'll see them most often in a field that's just been worked, although sometimes they'll sneak up on you in a field of wheat or grass where there isn't any dust to make it visible. Burned wheat stubble will create some really impressive dirt devils. The Wikipedia article says they don't form in windy conditions, but I can tell you that they do; they tend to be a lot bigger in that case. | |
