I think one of the things you need to do is to go back to the elevator, and find out why the original check was made out to the CCC.  I'd ask for a new check - without the CCC name on it.  But also, apparently, they have some kind of record for you to put the CCC name on your checks.  You need to ask them to remove it, so this does not happen again. 

At least, that is how I would see it.
