| Just because he's not taking insulin doesn't mean he's not on meds for his diabetes. I have had Type 2 for close to 20 yrs & don't take insulin., I do take oral meds for it. I eat a fairly normal diet, though I probably could do better. Believe me, it's hard to stay on a strict diet, especially when you're in a crowd & they are eating things you like but know you shouldn't have.
My suggestion would be to bring it up in a casual conversation. If you see he's not wanting to discuss it, change the conversation to a different subject. You cannot lead his life for him. I don't mind discussing my diabetes but if you would tell me what I should or shouldn't be eating it would turn me off. It's no differenet than if he was an alcoholic or drug user. Until he decides he wants to do something about it there's nothing you can do . | |
