| If you are mechanically inclined (most make you take a mechanical apptitude test) I'd suggest Telecom/cable technician. It's true that wireless and broadband is killing both industries, but if you're not looking to retire from there, you may be all right. I've been in telecom for 11 years and know I won't retire from there (job is slowly turning into being a board swapper), but it has provided for a good life. For the most part it's an 8-5, 5 days a week gig with o.t. available if you want to work it, good benefits, and able to meet a lot of people (think future landlords!!!). The best part for me, I'm outside a lot and I'm my own boss, just have to make sure all of my assigned work gets completed.
