Subject: A prayer for Mothers today

Central Ohio
This is a tribute prayer for Mothers that I wrote today for church and a testimony to my mother who embodies so much of it.

Thanks, moms, for all you do.

Mother's Day Prayer 2012

Lord, you have made motherhood a crucial role and a wild adventure. It has many, many rewards and many, many challenges. And it is a journey with many ebbs and flows. Change after change after change. Today we pray for mothers who are in all different stages of the journey.

We pray for those women amongst us who have the hope of motherhood in their hearts but have not yet seen its fulfillment. We ask that you would grant patience, friends with wise words, and the very difficult understanding that even in our age of technology, it is you who open and close wombs.

We pray for others with young children whose lives and even personhoods seem buried in piles of laundry, dishes and toys. Give them great joy in the early years of their children's lives, wisdom to train and love them wisely, and the encouragement that, as women, their hopes, dreams, and calling in life are safe with you and haven't been lost in these very hectic years.

We pray for mothers of teenagers who feel like they run from one game to another practice, to another recital. Though it many not be “cool,” we pray you would give these moms the courage and wisdom to know when to slow their teens down and settle in on truly important things for a while.

We pray for mothers of Adult kids who all of a sudden find their role in their children's lives shifting dramatically. Give them wisdom to know how to support and not drive away, to love and not smother, and to be a friend while still speaking hard truths when needed.

We pray for mothers who have lost children to death's cruel reach. Please mend these broken hearts. We ask for an inexplicable peace and room to grieve. We ask that you would keep those with untimely words far from them and grant these mothers the settled reality of the hope found in life with you.

Finally we pray for mothers with estranged children, whether they are at odds or the child has just wandered far from the fold. May their constant love be clearly evident to their child. May forgiveness and humility abound in the relationship. We ask for your reconciliation to be clearly seen in these families.

God and father, only to you can we entrust such a prayer, the God who made us and strengthens moms for their daunting task.

In the name Jesus our Lord. Amen.
