In the 50's, on the opening day of bird season the senior boys were allowed to leave school after first hour to get to the fields before the season opening at 10AM, without being given an absence from school...
So the half hour before school started the cars in the parking lot all had their trunks open and everyone went around checking out the guns - including the Superintendent and the Principal and most of the male teachers...
Can you imagine the hysteria today if someone called the local radio station and said there are 54 boys in the high school parking lot holding guns... |
