Driftless SW Wisconsin

If you take a recent job you've done, total your material costs, add about 8% to that for transportation, etc then take the manhours you actually spent on the job times whatever you feel is a fair hourly rate, including use of your tractor, skidsteer, auger, post driver and/or any other equipment use and fuel and time to get the equipment to the job and back. You should also make sure you are covered by insurance, liability and for yourself.

Divide this total $$ by the number of feet of fence on this job and you will have a reasonable billing rate per foot of fence for that type of fence in that type of terrain. Don't worry about what other folks are charging, this is the number you need to be able to do it again next year. Someone will always be lower than you are. If you do a quality job that word will get around real quick. Tell folks that you do have insurance. Best of luck to you.
