Subject: Re: Containment liner

Kingston,Mi
A number of the fertilizer secondary confinements built in Michigan have used poly material installed by oil well service companies. We had it installed on earthen embankments, modular block walls and cast concrete (where the tanks were already in place and on solid foundations). Without a location it is impossible to recommend a supplier that may be localized. The J.C. Ramsdell/Weststeel system generally is a package with galvanized bin sheets holding up polyliner. Another similar system is the Hunter Plia-Dike by Hunter Agrisales inc., http://www.Hunterag.com Some products may be suitable for 1 product but not the other.

One of the early containments was built and accepted as complete within 15 days from the time the demonstration money became available to a family of farmers. In a telephone conversation with Hunter Agrisales, we agreed on a size when we accounted for the 4 verticle and 4 horizontal tanks that were proposed. We double checked our calculations and confirmed with Hunter. They shipped the plastic 4 ft by 3.5 ft. panels, braces. pins and nylon nuts and bolts along with a detailed instruction sheet. The farmer had the site excavated as directed, they borrowed a laser and set the wall. The braces are covered with a layer of concrete. When it was time to install the liner, the gentlman from Hunter drove up from Indiana and assisted them in attachating the liner. Next pea stone was delivered to the interior and leveled. finally it was backfilled. Whilw this was in progress, the tanks had 30 years of sluge removed, scraped and an industrial anti-corrosion paint applied. Finally the bottoms were tarred on the outside and crane set them in place. Other than the excavation, stone hauling and crane use, a father and his 2 sons did all the work themselves between Sept 15th and the 30th while waiting to start beets.
