central Iowa | That's a type of fork I'd call a grapple fork. We used another version when I was a kid, It had 4 large tines like yours, but each tine was independent-just all connected with chains. These were used originally for loose hay, but as farmers switched to baled hay they made them work. My uncle always "stuck the fork" (his job on the crew) It took 2 layers of 4 bales . When
driving the tractor on the rope, you had to stop as the fork came back to him,so it could straighten it out, then let it the rest of the way down. If you let it come down in a heap, you got "that look" and better not do it a 2nd time. | |
