New Brunswick, Canada | Ugh, makes me shudder every time I see some one jerk a chain. Rarely helps pull someone out and is rough on everything. Ever since getting straps I try not to use chain.
My kind of rule of thumb for chain, you need at least double the weight of the thing stuck to get it out, and if you can't get on good footing, maybe 3 x. With a strap, often something the same weight or less can get it free, even in bad footing.
