Subject: Question from novice:

northeastern Ohio

I've never traded stocks before, so please excuse my ignorance.  I signed up with Scottrade last month and purchased a few stocks.  One of those stocks is CFNB (California First National Bank).  I purchased at $15.03.  Today it is listed at $16.21 on the board.  The Scottrade report pictured below shows BID at $15.51 and ASK at $16.25.

Does this mean that if I buy more today it would cost $16.25 per share?  If I sell, do I only get $15.51?

Why is there such a wide spread on this stock?

I also have some CTB (Cooper Tire) stock.  Listed at $15.21.  Bid is $15.19 and Ask is $15.21.  This is a much narrower range.  What determines this range?

Thanks.
