I would think horses too.
Not sure where though.
Know there used to be some kind of ring on part of the harness over the horses back that the reins ran through.
That looks heavy for that but they would not have had plastic in those days so maybe that is what they used.

Interesting what you can find in a field.
A week ago I picked up a 1 inch shaft with a cultivator point about 2 inches wide 'welded' to the shaft at right angles by a blacksmith.
It was lying on its back with the point sticking straight up.
Found it while picking stones from an alfalfa field.

Figure it came off a horse drawn cultivator or perhaps a scuffler.
Been in the dirt a long time.
