SW Minnesota | Yup - the soybean straw bunching problem begins at the rear of the combine the previous fall. The newer combines that pulverize everything that comes out the back solves the problem. We used to have a lot of guys around here that used soil finishers in the spring just to have that disc gang up front cutting up the bean straw before it went thru the "field cultivator" part of the machine - problem solved. Now, many of those guys have a new or newer combine and they went back to a field cultivator because you can get a wider machine for less money (& get more acres covered in a day with the wider machine). | |
