| hungry calves will suck on anything. chute her or get her tied, and get the calf sucking on your finger, and then grab the tit and put it in his mouth. He should take right off.
if worse comes to worse, I'll halter the cow and tie her short, and then rope 1 rear leg and pull it back and up. (over a rafter, or a loader tractor)
but ya have to stay close if she gets a little wild..... might fall over! I've even used my hip jack to lift the whole back end of the cow a couple of inches. Me or the calf never been kicked yet.
If junior gets kicked too many times, he will lose interest!
when you introduce a new calf with the dead skin to the cow, always offer the butt end of the calf to the cow first! let her smell it before giving her the whole calf
