We've got AP machines.   A couple of them are too new to say much about yet but a couple of them are probably 10 yrs or so old and never really had any trouble with them.

I should mention that none of them are lifting more than about 200' though.   400' is a lot of curtain for one machine.

I've got some old (~20 yr) Hired Hands that I don't think much of but I'm sure their newer ones are better.
