southern Illinois | I built one about 20 years ago and am still using it. I used sucker rods but to the best of my memory with just a 3 or 4 inch twist in 6 ft the rods are still straight. Any more would start the hump effect or twist you are talking about.
Neighbor built one straight and it would shake the dirt off the frame from vibrating so I would put some twist in it but not much. Just enough that parts of two bars are on the ground at all times.
