Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | Friend has done it for several years now. He was planting winter triticale, haying it in July, then planting turnips with a few oats. I think one year he even hayed the oats as it was a warm fall. Cows love the turnips. They eat the tops off, then later will roll the turnips out. Later in the winter he takes a V-ripper out and rips a couple of rounds every day, it brings the turnips up. Not sure what kind he grows, they are a long slender turnip I think. I think he feeds a lot of cows cheap doing it. If I had wheat stubble I'd definitely do it. | |
