Subject: What to plant for a winter pasture?

Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle

We are looking at what we should plant in our small calving pasture to help control the mud. It used to be sod but a couple years ago the rains turned it into a mud pit now all that grows is weeds. We are thinking Rye and planting it early enough that it reseeds itself. Something thats comes back every year or will reseed itself would be ideal because we dont really want to tear it up every year because of the hills and dont want it to wash.
