NE Iowa | It's the last week of March and as usual have had about 1/2 of our calves. What is unusual is that should be buried in mud and temps in the 40's. Snapped a couple pics of cows and calves enjoying the dry dirt lot. Have more concrete and buildings than I need since we used to have about 4 times as many cattle. If this was a typical year I would have the cows and calves confined to the concrete and sheds. Even though we have about every color of cattle the cows are all at least 3/4 Simmental. The Holsteins left and beef came to the farm in '77. Grandpa started with a Shorthorn bull, then a couple Limousin, one Hereford, about 3 Gelbviehs, and now on a string of about 10 Simmental bulls.
