Subject: Re: 4440, what to look for

NE Iowa
My wife's uncle(now deceased) used to be an engineer at Deere and he said the 4440 was the most over engineered tractor that ever left Waterloo. Most of the parts were built way heavier than need-be. We've got one with 12k hours on it and could probably use an overhaul, but as many have said, feed it a little ether below 45 degrees or plug it in and away ya go. I'd take the quad range over the 8 speed slam o matic powershift. With the powershift for tillage work, almost always seemed like 4th was too slow and didn't have enough power to run in 5th. A good runnin old horse. Happy hunting
