Subject: RE: Mowing CRP waterways, the rules, ( Indiana ).

Montpelier Indiana
Ed:
No CRP may be mowed before July 15 th unless you get permission from the FSA office to mow early to control the noxious weeds as you said. NOW, IT DEPENDS ON WHAT COUNTY YOU HAVE YOUR RECORDS IN AND WHAT THE COUNTY COMMITTEE WANTS TO DO. Some counties will let you you mow early each year if you ask, in other counties, if you ask to mow early 2-3 years in a row they will make you srpay the weeds.

The 3 year thing. At one time the rules said you could mow before July 15th to get the stand established. Now I beleive it states the mowing may be done before July 15th untill NRCS completes a status review. HA, HA! NRCS is so damm busy pushing other papers and being stuck in front of a computer that they have no time to do the status review.

Some counties will check to see if you mow early, and will fine you if you do, others don,t care or the people running the office would like to see it mowed before July 15th and look the other way. In short, it depends on where you are at.

For future CRP contracts get ready for this. Mid-Management practice's. This is where you will go into you nice stand of grass and disk area's up to "ensure plant diversity and wildlife benefits".
( Thank God this does not apply to waterways, just whole fields, not sure on filter strips )

This can be found in FSA's book 2-CRP paragraph 238, if anyone wants to look at it. ( The mowing and the Mid-Management stuff ).
