"Most strip till machines of various types also include row cleaners that move residue to the side while conventional tillage incorporates the residue everywhere." That makes sense, Jim. By having "just dirt" without all the relative voids of residue, the soil would warm up more and faster. All the residue, when incorporated into the soil, would be like ice cubes in a glass, with the voids the trash creates being like insulation holding the cooler temp.

You may not be right, but that's the theory I'll go with until there's a better one ;)
