The girls get third cut alfalfa when we get close to lambing and afterwards. The ewe lambs are rationed on the alfalfa prior to lambing as we've had rectal prolapse troubles when they got to eat all they wanted. Not quite enough room in there for all that feed and the rectum was the first thing to pop. Ewes and ewe lambs also get corn before and after lambing, 2-3 pounds a day, including when they are in the lambing jugs. Usually it's 3 lbs but occassionaly they get cut back if needed. We hear coyotes every day but rarely see one. Our lambs never go out on pasture and the ewes come home every night so we've never had a problem. We do have a Great Pyrennes too, which seems to help. |
