Northeast Iowa
The private investment group that bought it was supposedly still in the capital raising portion of the effort about this time last year when their target start-up date was August 2011. Part of the problem may be with getting the necessary approval for their water treatment issues during cold weather. Not sure if the lagoon system there had any problems after the 2008 flood, but some equipment and electrical systems had damage inside the plant as a result of the flood. So maybe they're thinking if they get it up and running during warm weather, they can get more leverage as a going concern to get something done with the waste water issues before winter arrives.

I was an ICA director around the time of the IQB start-up. We typically learned more from press releases in the Des Moines Register than we did at board meetings. With Tyson's announcement this morning that they're going to close their slaughter-only operation in Denison next year and transfer it to Dakota City, there may be a few employees available for Tama. Not sure what kind of numbers the kosher plant in Postville is up to now, but they had the same idea of starting relatively small (40-80 head per day) and moving up to around 800 per day eventually when they changed ownership a couple years ago.
