no it does not freeze solid . It will freeze in chunks on the outside though. It will get a crust 4inches maybe a little more . Will rot out that much also. One thing that I found with it was a little more work but worked well when I was not feeding a lot . I would load the feedwagon with ground straw (or whatever you are using) and mix it . Like maybe 500straw / 2000 wdgs. can't remember the number for sure havent done it for awhile you would have to experiment . Then dump it on a pile . You can get it to a consistency that you can pack. I would just push it up with the loader and firm it up on the edges with the bucket when I was done. You will not lose any water and it mixes better when you go to feed it in my opinion . It also extends the shelf life of it . Use a ratio when you feed it because you have hay in the mix already .
