Subject: RE: commodity sheds

west central Iowa
We poured concrete late last fall for my commodity shed. 40' by 100' will be under monoslope roof. Wall are 8' tall and 12" thick. I found some 6" square tube that we will use for vertical columns. I bought some "H" beams several years ago that we will use for rafters (19# 10" beams). Bought 10" "Z" purlins that were overrun out of building factory. Seconds of roof steel also from factory. We are still trying to determine exactly how high to build the structure. I know the walls add expense to the building, but you have more places to put vertical support so your rafters don't need to carry as much weigh for their span. I saw some monoslope rafters built with 2 " Cee" channels bolted together ][. I can't remember if they were 10" or 12" but they spanned about 30' with no verticals in between. I got quite a library of structural data/information as I researched this quite a bit.
