Central Iowa
Zinc phosphate wash, used to have it at napa, or Phix corrosion preventer. The sand blasting media is not small enough to get into the grain of the metal where the fertilizer salts are. You need to convert and nuetralize the salt in the metal pores then use the best primer you can get OR your blast and paint job will only last 2 or 3 years depending on exposure and storage conditions. Also good to lightly sand all flat metal parts especially sheet metal. Blasting will leave sand particles embedded in the metal and a quick handsand will smooth them down and knock them out. Also don't skimp on paint, Primer 2 times and let dry then paint 2-3 heavy coats or 4-5 lighter coats. When the paint shrinks you will see the pits left by the blasting, It looks like fine metalflake.

Good Luck
