We did something similar when I worked at Boeing. We had what was called electromagnetic pulse forming. You induce a lot of electricity into a coil creating an electromagnetic pulse which in turn creates a pressure wave that forced aluminum tubing into a splined shaft coupling. It took only tenths of a second and created a hermetic seal. Neatest thing I ever saw. Built thousands of "torque tubes"( fancy Boeing name for a drive shaft).
