Subject: RE: SugarSpecial

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
A sugar special is a tractor that they offered to the big sugar companies in south florida. They bought them by the trainload to use pulling cane wagons behind the cane harvesters. Some companies needed several hundred cane wagon drivers, so you can imagine they all weren't real stellar drivers. (in some cases a monkey is smarter, but monkeys can't talk) In order to shortcut a lot of expense, they ordered tractors without the windows and climate control, that way the operators didn't have any windows to kick out. Most of them ended up in south america after their south Florida tour, but a few stuck around, mostly right there in the sugar neighborhood. Most wagon pullers anymore DO have cabs and they only run them a few years and then sell them while they're still worth something. I think a great deal are even leased now. When I bought mine, it was only 5 years old and had 12,000 hrs on it. So they run them hard and send them up the road. The 9310s were really good ones. Now they usually use 200 hp MFWD tractors. The muck land really does a number on the steel parts and appearance. I think Florida crystals still uses Steigers, but they run cabs now.
