Northeast Nebraska | If you can live with a check engine light, you can simply unplug the egr valve.
I replaced my EGR cooler. Went with Bullet Proof Diesel's cooler. You can google them for their website. Basically, the factory EGR cooler has too small of passages for the coolant to pass through. When a passage plugs, you get a hot spot. Then it cracks from heat stress. Bullet Proof's cooler has large passages that will never plug. I doubt it is as effective as the factory, but it works, and hasnt failed me in 60000 miles.
At 110,000 miles, I replaced a cracked head. Installed head studs. Replaced EGR cooler, replaced oil cooler, and installed aftermarket exhaust. I havent had an issue since.
Also, I got some oil additive from rev-x. Its about $35 per oil change. It helped my pickup start better on cold mornings. It also runs better cold if I hop in it and go. It helps free the injectors up. I'm not hell bent on using it. But it did help me some, and I bought more for my family's other 2 6.0s. | |
