I can't speak to buying commercial equipment, but the guys in my area are applying foam for less than a dollar a board foot. The kits you can buy are priced in the neighborhood of 1.25-1.50 a board foot. Plus the pro will do a FAR better job of it.. I'm in the fargo ND area.
